Home Garden Green House

Building a Home Garden Green House

Home Garden Green HouseWouldn't you love to have a home garden green house? You could grow vegetables all year round and prepare your own plants for spring. When it’s cold, you could take a chair out there and pretend that maybe summer isn’t so far away after all. If you keep it small, you can easily build a home garden green house without spending a lot of money. Or you could build a fantastic home garden green house that brings the outdoors inside all year long.

Building a Small Home Garden Green House

You can build a small home garden greenhouse in even the tiniest back yard. You can get inexpensive kits for just about any size green house you can imagine. You can design your own small home garden greenhouse, too. When you work up your design, keep in mind where you plan to put the green house and what kind of exposure it will have to the sun and other elements. Remember that exposure to the sun varies with the season. If you can get good winter exposure and less summer exposure, you’ll be in great shape.

Heating Your Home Garden Green House

Think about how you'll manage to keep your home garden green house warm in the winter. There are many ways to conserve heat: using raised beds or growing things in beds that are off of the ground, insulating the floor and as much of the walls and ceiling as possible, banking dirt up against the greenhouse, planting evergreens up next to it. There are a few ways to heat your home garden green house and they are similar to the ways you heat anything else in the winter. With a green house, your goal is to keep it warm enough to grow things without breaking the bank.

Think about light for your greenhouse. You'll, of course, use sunlight to heat it and to grow your plants. Remember that the sun has a different angle of elevation in the sky during the winter months than in the summer. Position the greenhouse with winter sun in mind. Because winter days are shorter, you may need some supplemental light, in the form of grow lights, to keep things in your home garden greenhouse growing all year round.

A Home Garden Green House That’s Something Special

If you're willing to spend a little money, you can have a home garden green house that's something special. Why not, for example, add an indoor swimming pool to the middle of your green house? The water would help maintain a steady temperature in the greenhouse, as well as keep the humidity levels nice and high. The addition of solar heating would help keep your running costs low once you'd made the initial outlay of course, and would also allow you to enjoy fresh vegetables and exotic flowers all year round.
